Every year it seems as if more and more kids have food allergies. I have even been to schools wtih signs on the front door signaling that peanuts and peanut related products are not allowed due to fears they will cause a reaction in some children. Although the number of children with food related allergies is actually only around eight percent, more parents think their children are affected due to the prevalence of food intolerance and misdiagnosis.
Regardless of the numbers, I imagine it can be really frightening for parents to let a child with food allergies make meal decisions without their supervision. That’s why the allergy collection from the L.A. based design company Jeeto! is ingenious. The collection consists of patches, stickers, and T-shirts that children can wear to inform others about what they can’t eat. The slogans cover most of the major food allergies, with wording such as “No peanuts please,” “Gluten Free,” and “No shell fish please.”
The allergy collection will help ease parents’ minds when they send their children off to school, to a babysitter, or to a friend’s house. Seeing more and more kids wearing their allergies on their backpacks and T-shirts may also bring awareness to the number of food allergies out there and what the cause of them may be. Although genetics have a role in passing severe allergies, research is showing that genetically modified crops could also be causing allergies to develop in children, which is another good reason to consider organic food.
