Alternative energy is finally getting some press — in April the country’s first off-shore wind farm, to be located off of the coast of Cape Cod, was approved, and more recently President Obama announced his plan to give money to boost solar power projects. And now comes news that Lake Erie will be host to the country’s first fresh water off-shore wind farm. Over the next two years, General Electric will build the initial five wind turbines which will generate 20 megawatts of power — enough to serve up to 6,000 homes. By 2020, GM plans to build out the farm with additional turbines.
